NSS unit of Govt. Degree College, R. S. Pura organized a Valedictory Ceremony to conclude the ongoing Seven Days Special Winter Camp. Principal of the college, Prof. Sunil Uppal was the chief guest of the occasion. The program started with the lighting of traditional lamp by the principal of the college and other staff members. Prof. Bindu Kumari, NSS Program Officer presented welcome address. She also briefed the audience about the various activities performed by the NSS unit during the seven days camp by presenting a power point presentation. The cultural activities presented on the event were Saraswati Vandana, Dogri dance, Bhangra, Poems etc. The audience was enthralled by stunning cultural performances. Two NSS volunteers also shared their experiences about the camp. Mr. Sourav Sharma, Ex NSS volunteer also expressed his views about his transformation during his journey as NSS volunteer. The prizes for different activities conducted during the camp were also distributed among the winners. Principal of the college while addressing the gathering congratulated the entire team of NSS unit for organizing such a wonderful camp. He also appreciated the role of NSS volunteers for creating awareness among common masses by organizing various activities through the seven days special Winter Camp. The proceedings of the program were conducted by Aastha, NSS volunteer whereas Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Vijay Kumari, Department of EVS. The other staff members present were Prof. J.P. Singh, Prof. Shifali Abrol, Prof. Sukhwinder Kour, Prof.Esha Abrol, Prof. Shaveta, Prof. Sheetal Devi.
Department of Zoology, Government Degree College R.S. Pura organized a one day workshop cum awareness program on Medicinal Plants, as part of weeklong activities of the Science Club of the college under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The workshop started with formal welcome address by Dr. Jaipal Singh, organizing secretary of Science Club. Dr. Preetpal Kaur, convener Science Club was the resource person she gave a highly informative presentation on Medicinal Plants. Students were highly motivated and described this offline lecture as eye opener and realistic. Dr. Jaipal Singh, also presented a detailed week long report of the different activities organized by the Science Club of the college under the theme National Science Day and urged the students to follow the footsteps of great Nobel Laurate Sir C V Raman who died at the age of 82 in 1970 but left behind the original work done by him for which He shall be remembered for ever not only in India but all over the world. This will automatically boom the nation to new heights. The event was coordinated by Prof. Shifali Abrol and supporting staff of the department. The technical support for the event was given by Prof. Neha Jain. A number of common medicinal plants were also exhibited in the college. All the activities of the science club were organized under the guidance of worthy Principal of the college, Prof. Sunil Uppal. The Principal appreciated the Science Club for organizing the week long activities. A formal vote of thanks was given by Dr. Raj Kumar Santhal of the Zoology Department.
Science Club of GDC R.S. Pura in collaboration with Department of Physics and under the aegies of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav organized a webinar today on National Science Dayon the topic "Nanotechnology: A Solution to all Technological Problems”. Principal of the College, Prof. Sunil Uppal, was the Chief Guest of the Webinar. Dr Parmod Kumar, Assistant Professor, J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA Faridabad was the resource person. The webinar began with the welcome address by Dr. Jaipal Singh, Head, Department of Physics, GDC R.S. Pura who welcomed chief Guest, Resource Person and participating students. Dr Singhexplained brieflyabout the significance of celebration of National Science Day (NSD). He also emphasized that theme of NSD is different every year and conceived thoughtfully keeping into consideration the immediate priorities of the Nation, Youth, Society and the World. He Said, “Today is the thirty sixth National Science Day”. It wasinitially recommended by the National Council of Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) to Government of India in the year 1986.GOI accepted its recommendation and declared 28th of Feb as National Science Day to commemorate the discovery of Raman Effect which was announced by Sir C V Raman on 28th of Feb 1928 and for which He was also awarded Noble Prize, from Royal Swedish Academy of Science, for his outstanding contributions to mankind in the field of Physics. Resource Person delivered the lecture in length and breadth on Nanotechnology and imbibed in young minds the future of this technology. Dr Kumar explained how this technology is gaining boom in this modern world of ours and going to bring revolution in the field of Agriculture, Medical, Engineering, Military, Sea and Space. He elaborated the wonders of nanotechnology and his own expertise in this field. Students quest for the subject was quite vibrant from the queries and his soft, caring and proper replies motivated the students. In gist, Dr Kumar concluded that a great hold over nanotechnology will bring asea change in the overall development of the nation, youth society and world as a whole when the concepts of nanotechnology will be introduced at college level as a subject. He also emphasizedthat, this is the necessity of the hour, what we derive from the research must be provided to younger generation and system at its earliest to strengthen it.Dr kumar attributed that younger generation is full of potential and needed to be channelized though Covid-19 has affected all spheres of life activity severely and needs some time to be on track for its fruitful results. Principal Sunil Uppal of the college appreciated the initiative taken by the Physics Department and choosing such a topic which is the current and thrust area of research now a days. Principal, explained the phenomenon of scattering of light / Raman effect and asked the students, having scientific temperament, to follow the footsteps of Sir Chandra Shekhara Venkata Raman to lead the nation to new heights. The other members present in the webinar were Dr. Balwinder Kaur, Prof. Asha Rani. The event concluded nicely with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Chetan Sharma. More than 95 students participated in the event.

Pura, in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Services Committee Munsif Court R S Pura, Jammu under the aegies of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav organized a webinar on the topic "Implementation of National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) Schemes” (Legal Services to Senior Citizens – 2016). Principal of the College, Prof. Sunil Uppal, was the Chief Guest of the webinar. Ms. Kesar Parveen, Advocate Panel Lawyer TLSC MunsifCourt R S Pura and Ms. Roopsi were the resource persons. The webinar began with the welcome address by Dr. Jaipal Singh, Head, Department of Physics, GDC R.S. Pura who welcomed all the participants and explained briefly the Purpose, meaning and objective of today’s webinar. Ms. Kesar Parveen Advocate TLSC MunsifCourt R S Pura, Jammu and Ms. Roopsi, a Law student were the resource persons for the webinar. They explained, in depth, each and every aspect of constitutional rights meant for senior citizenswhich are covered under NALSA Scheme. They explained the participants about the legal rights of the senior citizens who are the real reservoir of experience, knowledge and skills but yet facing disrespect, neglect and innumerable challenges. It is pertinent to mention here that as per NALSA survey – 2011,nearly half of the senior citizen population experienceinnumerable challenges. These challenges are social, physical, mental and economic challengesbesides this they have to face emotional and psychological harms too. The Principal of the college appreciated theinitiative taken by the Physics Department and choosing such a topic which is the absolute need of hour - as nearly one eight of the total world population reside in India of which average 8% of total Indian Population is above 60 years where Kerla has the highest percentage rate of senior citizen upto 12.5% as per latest survey. Principal also spoke about various stages of this scheme and its benefits to help out the senior citizen who are really the sufferers of various challenges in this modern world of ours. According to Principal Sunil Uppal, such webinars will spread the message of various government schemes meant for senior citizens of which common masses are yet unaware besides this it will also imbibe in the minds of younger generation the sense of moral duties and responsibilities to the extent that they may not leave their elders (senior citizens) in destituteconditions in their old age. The other members present in the webinar were Prof. (Dr.) Chetan Sharma, Prof. Asha Rani, Dr. Ashwani Bassan, Mr. Amit Sharma (Adv) and Ashish Choudhary.The event concluded nicely with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Balwinder Kaur.
