History of College

The Govt. Degree College at R.S. Pura was started in the year 2005 with 35 students enrolled for the session 2005-06. It was established in the first phase of the state education policy to open Colleges at Tehsil and Sub-District level. This step of Government has facilitated quality education at the doorstep of the people residing in the peripheries. In its conception it was working in the premises of Govt. Higher Secondary School R.S. Pura, but now the College is presently functioning in newly constructed premises adjacent to the same School and Bana Singh Stadium which was named after the NaibSubedarBana Singh, Son of the Soil and recipient of Paramveer Chakra.

Its foundation stone was laid down by the Hon�ble Chief Minister of the state Jenab Mufti Mohd. Sayed Sahib in 2005 and the college in the present newly constructed building was shifted in 2008 after the formal inauguration by thenHonorable Minister for Higher Education Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak on 22nd of June 2008. Initially the college started with only four subjects (English, Applied Mathematics, Computer Application and Education) in Arts Stream. But now Science Stream with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Computer Application and Zoology subjects have also started from 2010. In Arts many more subjects like History, Sociology, Mathematics, Modern Indian Languages, Economics, Political Science and Sanskrit are available. These subjects are available to the students in different subject combinations. Recently in the year 2014, Geography subject was sanctioned and B.A./B.Sc. semester-I with Geography combination was also added to the already existing combinations for the session commencing from July 2014.

The college has nine class rooms, well equipped laboratories for Computer, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry and Library with ~ 5000 books. Internet facility is also available in the Computer laboratory. Besides this college has one Smart Class Room established in the year 2014.

The college has an NSS Unit, Red Cross Unit, Red Ribbon Club, Career Counseling Cell, Girls Common Room, Women Development Cell�etc. College has also signed MOU with IGNOU centre. These facilities enable students of this college to fulfill their future aims.

The enrollment of the students in this college is increasing regularly and has a quantum jump for the last two sessions. At present, Number of students enrolled in different streams are 1288. Moreover Stress is given on quality education inspite of increase in the enrollment of the students.
