International Yoga Day celebrated at GDC RS Pura International Yoga Day was celebrated at GDC RS Pura with great fervor and gaity by the NSS Volunteers under the supervision of team, led by eminent personality of the yoga peeth prof Uma Sharma, from patanjalli yog peeth samiti. Other members of the peeth present on the International Yoga day were Dr B. S. Mangotra, Captain Hans Raj ( tehsil pariwarri), Sh Krishan lal , Mrs Neelam kumari (tehsil mahilla pariwari). Earlier students were enlightened about the yoga by the chief of yoga peeth samiti prof Uma Sharma at length. Larer she practiced various yoga exercises along with her teammates. principal Dr Savitri Sharma spoke on the occasion and emphasized the volunteers to assimilate the yoga activities for onwards transmission to young generation as it will keep them away from doing wrong activities besides helping in developing healthy mind and perfect body as young generation is the future of the nation. NSS programme officer Prof Jaipal Singh presented the vote of thanks to the dignitaries present on the occasion.

On spot poster making competition was organised on NO TOBACCO DAY today on 31st May 2016 by the Volunteers of Red Ribbon Club at GDC R S Pura. Nearly twenty students took part in the competition. A panel of Judges along with winning team.

Seven days special camp of NSS was held at G.D.C. R.S. Pura. NSS volunteers partricipated whole heartedly during the camp from 24th of March 2016 to 31st of March 2016.
Focus of the camp was on Swachch Bharat-Swasth Bharat to fulfill the dreams of Hon’ble prime Minister Narinder Modi, Save girl child, Go green- Eco friendly, Save water-save life, Prevent pollution , Say no to polythene for healthy Nation.
Ranjana Hans, Saveet Kour, Aripu Gupta , Sakshi Sharma, Prashant Sharma were elected as the ambassadors of the college for the year 2015-16, to spread the message of cleanliness and other social issues along with other volunteers, in the adopted village  Bias pur Parlah where sarpanch Tarsem singh showed his keen desire for exchange of thoughts and opinion of villagers with the volunteers regarding the social burning issues to eliminate the ill effects on the individual, society and country in toto.
An awareness rally was also conducted by the NSS volunteers on the last day of the camp in the adjoining area of the college, chanting slogans on environment, pollution, water, electricity.
Principal Dr Savitri Sharma appreciated the efforts of NSS volunteers and emphasized that such activities imbibes self confidence, patriotism, brotherhood, concept of caring and sharing besides the development in the personality of the individual.
NSS Programme officer Dr Jaipal Singh thanked Principal Dr Savitri Sharma, Prof Satpaul Bhagat, Prof Rajesh kant, Prof Ranjodh Singh (staff secretary), Prof Ganjit Singh, Prof Bindu Kumari, Dr Mandeep Singh(PTI) for their overwhelming support since inception to culmination of the camp.
Dr Jaipal Singh thanked Dr Vishav Raksha ( programme co ordinator, University of Jammu) for her proper guidance besides her busy schedule.

Higly motivated and dedicated volunteers of Red Ribbon club of Govt. Degree College R.S. Pura visited  ICTC and ART Centre at GMC  Jammu along with Nodal Officer Dr. Jaipal Singh and project Director Rajesh Sharma of J & K State AIDS control Society  in collaboration with JKSACS.
Ritu Sharma and Monika Sharma counselor of Integrated counseling and Testing Centre ( ICTC ) discussed in detail the ways to educate the affected person so that AIDS affected person may garner strength to  come forward for the treatment  of AIDS/HIV in Anti  Retro Viral Treatment (ART )  centre’s where highly experienced team of doctors is available for their treatment .
Dr Vijay Kumar Verma, Senior Medical Officer of ART Centre at GMC Jammu apprised the  volunteers about the disease and its treatment. In his interaction with the students, He stated that though it is yet not cure able but its patient can live a longer life with proper medication and counseling. Sufferers must come to ART Centre for proper treatment where their  identity would be kept confidential.
Earlier, Principal Dr Savitri Sharma blessed  the volunteers for their selfless services to the society in the noble cause of counseling the society and thanked Director JKSACS  Saleem Ur Rehman for providing this  opportunity to the volunteers of Red Ribbon Club of Govt. Degree College, R.S. Pura  in the larger interest of the  nation.

World’s AIDS Day

An awareness rally on World’s AIDS Day of Govt. Degree College R.S.Pura was Organised today from the college campus to Daljeet chowk and back. All the Red Ribbon Club Volunteers/NSS Volunteers of the college participated in the rally along with programme officer Dr. Jaipal Singh. Others presents in the rally were Prof. Satpaul Bhagat , Prof Vishal Sharma, Prof Anupama Sharma, Prof Netar Prakash Sharma, Prof Ranjodh Singh, Dr.Mohd Maqeem Ansari, Dr Arun Bose. Dr Neha Sharma and Ms Chetna Mahajan.


Students displayed play cards & chanted Slogans “KNOW AIDS FOR NO AIDS” “AIDS---THE MONSTER---KICK IT OUT “, ERADICATE -- AIDS etc. throughout the procession.


Besides this Programme officer Dr Jaipal Singh delivered a lecture on AIDS to the Students of the college and asked every individual should spread the same message to the citizens so that people of the locality may come forward without hesitation and join hands to curb this dreaded disease which has become the epidemic and had engulfed the whole world in its lap. Do’s and Don’ts were also lectured and the pitiable condition of AIDS patient were also displayed through Banners to make awareness among common about AIDS/HIV & its dreaded effects.


Principal Prof Dr Savitri Sharma also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the students and staff for their over whelming enthusiasm and stern determination to curb this dreaded Virus-HIV/AIDS.


Essay writing competition on Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan at G.D.C.-R.S. Pura..

Swachch Bharat campaign was officially launched on 2nd October 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself cleaned the road. Modi said that the best memorial to Mahatma Gandhi would be to achieve a "Clean India" by 2019 on his 150th birth anniversary. It was India's biggest ever cleanliness drive and 3 million government employees, school and college students of India participated in this event. The mission was started by Prime Minister Narender Bhai Damodar Dass Modi, who nominated nine famous personalities for the campaign, and they took up the challenge and nominated nine more people and so on. It has been carried forward since then with people from all walks of life joining it.


Working on the same track NSS Volunteers of G.D.C –R.S. Pura along with other students took active participation in essay writing competition on swachch Bharat Abhiyaan within the college premies. Nearly 80 NSS volunteers and other college students took active participation in the contest, result of which was declared today. Evaluators of the contest were Ms Suman Bala (English Script) Mr.Rajinder Singh (Punjabi Script) and Ms Harvinder Kour (Hindi Script).


Shikha Sharma (R.No.:387) of BA Semester-1 and Bharti(R.No.:14) of B.Sc Part-II in a neck to neck contest declared first while Deepika (R.No.:03) of B.Sc. semester-I and Sukhjinder Singh (R.No.:02)of B.Sc Part-II stood 2nd and 3rd .


Message was clear. Clean your own houses and streets honestly with dedication and throw garbage in proper dustbins. Identify proper places for keeping and destroying waste materials. This will not only yield better manure but also effectively minimize harmful effects of waste materials and in turn will enhance the growth of happy livelihood of individual, positive thinking of the people , social status of the citizen and Economic reforms of the nation. Above all, this will lead to countries cleanliness & development in all spheres. Message was to concerned / associated agencies to keep strict vigil on any sort of pollution caused by these pollutants during their destruction. Effective remedial steps to be taken by them, keeping in mind the fact that healthy mind will lead to healthy and prosperous nation.


Principal Dr. Savitiri Sharma encouraged the NSS volunteers & other students of the college to keep participating in such events in future also as such participations reflects their view points to enhance countries development and growth.

NSS programme officer Prof Dr Jaipal Singh thanked Prof. Ghanjit Singh ,Prof. Netar Prakash , Prof. Satpal Bhagat , Prof. Arun Bose and others present on the occasions for their selfless efforts in making this event a success and joining hands in the hands of PM Modi to make this mission gigantic, loveable, result oriented and real in true letter and spirit by 2019.

Celebration of National Youth Day by the volunteers of Red Ribbon Club at G.D.C R.S. Pura.

National Youth Day is celebrated on 12th January - the birthday of Swami Vivekananda (Swami Vivekananda's birthday 12 January 1863). In 1984 the Government of India declared the day as the National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year.

On 12 January 2013, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told in his address at the inauguration of four-year-long celebrations of Swami Vivekananda's 150th birth anniversary that we must work to rekindle the eternal message of this great patriot and son of India.

To quote from the Government of India's communication, 'it was felt that the philosophy of Swamiji and the ideals for which he lived and worked could be a great source of inspiration for the Indian Youth. It is entirely fitting that the Government of India has declared 12th January, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, as National Youth Day.

The National Youth Day is observed all over India at schools and colleges, with processions, speeches, recitations, music, youth conventions, seminars, Yog asanas, presentations, competitions in essay-writing etc. The importance of this day is immense as it promotes youth in the field of education, art, culture and hope to generate moral values with enlightenment of inner soul.

This day was also celebrated today at G.D.C- R.S. Pura by the students of Red Ribbon club under the aegis of Principal Dr Savitri Sharma in the library Hall. Eight Groups of students took active part in quiz contest and numerous participants spoke on the occasion of NYD-2016. They threw light on Swami Vivekananda's lectures and writings.


In their speeches, they attributed that Swami Vivekananda was a social reformer and a spiritual leader. Swami jee worked to eliminate child marriage and to spread education among women and lower castes.

Later Judges Prof Rajeshkant, Prof Satpaul Bhagat, Ms Deepali Maidth, Ms Jasbir Kour finalised the results of students who participated in the quiz contest and paper presentation. Group I (Padmini Kumari, Deepika Kumari and Shikha Sharma), Group II ( Usha Saini, Kavita Saini and Sakshi) Group V (Kamini Sharma, Vishali Malhotra and Neha Chib) were adjudged first, second and third in the quiz contest while Shikha Sharma, Padmini Kumari and Deepika Kumari were declared first, second and third in paper presentation on NYD-2016.

Principal Dr Savitri Sharma felicitated the marvelous efforts of today’s youth especially the college students in nation building, sharing and shouldering its responsibility for making advancement in all spheres of activities. Red Ribbon Club Programme Officer Dr Jaipal Singh presented vote of thanks while Ms Anupriya Sachhar was the anchor of the event celebrated under the banner of Red Ribbon Club (RRC).

Celebration of Human Rights Day 2015 at GDC RS Pura

Human Rights Day was celebrated within the college on 10/12/2015 with the pledge. Fifteen NSS Volunteers and students of the college spoke on the occasion. NSS Volunteer Gurmeet kour (R.No. 767) Varsha Rani (R.No. 470) and Padmini (R.No. 714) of BA semester I were declared 1st , 2nd and 3rd by the panel of judges Prof Satpaul Bhagat, Prof Rajesh kant, and Prof Anupamma Sharma while Parshant sharma and Sumeet Sharma of BA Part III were also adjudged second and third in the neck to neck contest on Human Rights Day.
Earlier Principal Dr Savitri Sharma encouraged all the participants who spoke on the occasion and congratulated Programme officer, advisory committee and NSS volunteers for making the event lively and knowledge rich.
A Rangoli at the entrance depicting clear message on the Human Rights day was on woman foeticide. In the contest every participant stressed on unity, equality, prosperity, dedication and devotion in their profession selflessly keeping in mind humanity at top Priority with all living beings in their own way. Govy. Degree College R.S.Pura has become the active member of Red Ribbon Club (RRC) set up by the J&K State AIDS Control Organization.Today's rally is the first step of its initiation taken by the Programme Officer Prof. Jaipal Singh with the overwhelming support of Principal Dr. S.P. Sharma, who was very keen to establish Red Ribbon Club in the college in the larger interest of students and masses of the locality.It has its importance in the sense of the youth of today of this area is spreading the message about AIDS-its harmful effects and are efficient enough to share their responsibility with the overwhelming support of Principal Dr. S.P.
